Purpose Statement
Presented to the Board of Directors of FACCS/IACCS
By Dr. Jerry Williamson, Vice President
The Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (F.A.C.C.S.) began in the 1960’s with the purpose of providing the Christian school movement of Florida with the following professional services:
1. Representation in Tallahassee
2. Teacher certification
3. School accreditation
4. Teachers/Administrators convention, conferences and training sessions
5. Various student programs
It is evident that F.A.C.C.S. will have an expanding influence in the national/international arena of Christian education through the organization of the International Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (I.A.C.C.S.). The five-fold purpose stated above will also be the purpose of I.A.C.C.S.
There would be a stronger spiritual influence if every board member and every school represented could be in total agreement. Since that is virtually impossible because of human frailty, it becomes vital that the executive leadership of the Board of Directors for F.A.C.C.S. and I.A.C.C.S. understand and control the five-fold purpose.
The international Christian school movement provides a broad ministry but demands a narrow leadership in order to carry out the five-fold purpose. The purpose can be realized by a non-democratic selection of capable board members, and the employment of Godly men who understand the history and proper direction of Christian education.
There is a need for a national executive director and an international executive director(s). The job will be too large for one man to fill both positions, and the international demands will eventually require several men as requests start flowing from the 211 nations of the world.
The International Association of Christian Colleges and Schools comes into operation to help Christian schools as they carry out God’s program; that is, to graduate born again students prepared to answer God’s call with money and manpower to the mission fields of the world. With a large percentage of America’s Christian school graduates practicing a lifestyle of immorality with little to no understanding of authority or responsibility, there is a place for an association that will meet the needs of schools that hold to a Bible philosophy of education and operation.
Many Christian fellowships and Christian schools are based on the “feel good philosophy”, which attracts young parents but will not hold off the enemy when he comes in like a flood. Lasciviousness has never been able to offer a stable foundation for family life.
The “performance philosophy” that demands standards for the Christian life is an Old Testament philosophy based on what the Apostle Paul called “…the letter of the law...”, which can only condemn, not save. Paul asked the Galatians, “…Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?” Christian schools with this philosophy will attract a very small segment of our young parents, and likewise will not hold off the enemy when he comes in like a flood. Legalism has never been able to offer a stable foundation for family life.
The philosophy of education that will work to stop the enemy in the lives of our youth, mobilize the work of the Holy Spirit, and continue the spread of the gospel around the world, comes from God’s Word: “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ…” (Galatians 6:14).
The goal of I.A.C.C.S. is to offer professional services to the Christian schools around the world who understand the true purpose of Christian education - - to provide money and manpower to accomplish God’s work.
